In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home performed well in short-term care. We awarded it an A for that category. Short-term care grades are often used to gauge a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to provide highly rated rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to have better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. One of this nursing home's strengths is registered nurse hours. We found that it offers more care from registered nurses to its residents than most facilities. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in Pennsylvania in this area with 60.7 percent of its residents returning home.

Among its many impressive grades, this facility earned an excellent nursing score. In fact, we gave it a grade of B+ in that category. Our nursing grade is largely associated with the facility's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these statistics as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

This facility earned a grade of B for its inspections grade. This is an above average score in this category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Nursing homes with better grades in this area tend to have very few severe deficiencies. While this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A few relatively minor deficiencies aren't necessarily something to panic about.

The next category we assessed was long-term care. For that category, we awarded this facility a grade of C. Our long-term care ratings are meaningful for individuals requiring personal care. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. We found that this nursing home provided the vaccine to a relatively low 75.5611 percent of its residents, which is not a very encouraging sign. Finally, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. Here we found that this place had 2.53 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Although this figure is somewhat concerning, this number can be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of patients.
