Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and offer extensive hands on care to residents. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 96.98795 percent of its patients, which is very impressive. Pneumonia sadly can be a dangerous illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

This nursing home also earned an A+ inspection score, making it one of the few nursing homes to receive multiple A+'s in our categories. These inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Turning our third area, this facility was awarded a strong short-term care grade. In fact, it received a score of A in that category. With our short-term care score, we strive to create a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In this process, we analyze a facility's level of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last datapoint we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

In the final category we assessed, this nursing home received an impressive grade grade of B+ in our nursing category. With this grade, the nursing home wrapped up a very favorable profile. When computing a facility's nursing grade, we assess the quantity of hours nurses are with residents as well as the skill levels of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as by having a policy of moving patients more frequently.
