Facility Inspections
On top of earning a strong overall grade, this nursing home performed well in our inspections category, which is based on the facility's inspection reports. We gave it a grade of A in this category. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. While this place had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
Adding to its first-rate resume, this nursing home also received a dominant short-term care grade, with a grade of A. In the area of short-term care, we strive to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and various therapists. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place performed as well as just about any nursing home in Michigan in this area with 57 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Adding to its impressive resume, this nursing home also excelled in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category. In calculating a facility's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses commit to patients as well as the level of licensure of those nurses. This place provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of providing high levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in several of the quality measures we assessed. With below five percent of its residents suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared as well as any nursing home Michigan in this category.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored is long-term care, where this facility was given a grade of A. This finished off a very strong report card. Not many facilities earned an A- or better in in each area we assessed. When nursing homes receive this type of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and suggests that the place is well-staffed with nurses aids. One of the criteria we considered in addition to this facility's impressive nursing hours was vaccines. This facility administered the pneumonia vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are a great way to avoid unnecessary hospitalizations for the elderly. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
