Facility Inspections
We also wanted to emphasize the fact that this facility has received near flawless inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A+ in this area. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these items by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This place was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none were considered severe. This means that CMS didn't deem any of these deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility fared well in the category of short-term care. Indeed, we awarded it a score of A for that category, which is one of our most dominant grades. In the category of short-term care, we endeavor to qualify measures of a facility's rehabilitation services. We assess a nursing home's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical therapists. One of this nursing home's strength is that it offers more hours of physical therapy per week to its residents. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents who ultimately returned home from this facility. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy staffing, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 79.3 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
This facility was awarded an impressive long-term care grade as well. We gave it one of our better grades in that category with a grade of B. When facilities receive a score in this range in long-term care it generally means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to reside on a permanent basis. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 96.296295 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is more than most nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
Nurse Quality
The next category we assessed is nursing. This nursing home was awarded an above average nursing rating this year, with a C. Although this was not nearly as dominant as many of its other scores, this is still an acceptable score in that category. We scrutinized the licensure of nurses working for the nursing home, as well as the number of hours those nurses were with residents, in determining our grade in this area. This nursing home provides 3.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also factored a few quality-based metrics into our nursing grades. This nursing home was relatively weak in some of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' major falls and pressure ulcers. These areas are often good measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
