Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a first-rate facility overall, this facility also excelled in the area of short-term care, where it received an A+. In computing our short-term care ratings, we look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. Our purpose is to formulate a scale for comparing the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last metric we looked at in this area is the number of residents that who were able to eventually return home from the facility. We found that 6.6 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.
Nurse Quality
Among this facility's other strengths is its elite nursing grade. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of A. Our nursing score is largely tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by employing a system of turning residents at least once a day.

Facility Inspections
Another area of strength for this nursing home is in inspections. Inspections proved to be one of its best categories. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B. Perhaps the most critical factor we consider in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher grades in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This facility was assessed 5 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This tells you that CMS didn't consider any of these deficiencies to be an imminent risk to patient safety or health. A couple relatively minor dings are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we assessed was long-term care. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is a rock bottom score. You should not necessarily dismiss a facility as a result of a single concerning grade though. In a long-term care setting, the primary objective is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 98.97959 percent of its residents for pneumonia. To our surprise, this nursing home also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Unfortunately, some of its other scores in the category were not as favorable as these.
