Facility Inspections
This facility received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to emphasize its excellent government inspections in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Our inspection ratings account for several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this area usually have few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this nursing home so highly is that it received a very impressive nursing rating. In fact, nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that area, we gave this facility an B+. When computing a facility's nursing rating, we consider the amount of time nurses commit to residents as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This place performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a place has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can typically be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality
Another one of this nursing home's more impressive category grades came in the area of short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a B. Short-term care grades are often employed to score a nursing home's performance with rehabilitation To have highly graded rehabilitation services, facilities generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of patients that returned home from the nursing home. We found that 5.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we rated was long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is a very poor grade. This is clearly a major concern. For residents looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. On top of looking at the amount of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility provided the vaccine to 95.61404 percent of its patients, which is higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
