Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection grades weigh a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid facilities with too many deficiencies flagged. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Nurse Quality
We awarded this facility a respectable grade in the area of nursing as well, with a grade of C. Our nursing score is mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most other facilities. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this place actually excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. In fact, it scored well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second worse category was short-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that area. This is a relatively poor score. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a nursing home's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide range of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Given its weak rating in this area, we were not surprised to discover that this nursing home provides significantly fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most other facilities. Finally, we considered the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this facility. This definitely wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home. At most facilities, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we analyzed was long-term care, which proved to be a low point for this nursing home. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in our long-term care category. For long-term care residents, the facility's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. Once we looked at the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its patients against pneumonia. Surprisingly, this place also keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, a few of its other scores in the category weren't as favorable as these.
