Facility Inspections
Although we were not high on this nursing home overall, we gave it a B- for inspections. This grade is more respectable than the place's overall score. Our inspection ratings are tied to many items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Deficiencies are an important item to look for on these reports. Severe deficiencies indicate a threat to patient safety. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G through L. This means CMS didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
The second most favorable category we gave this nursing home in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. Long-term care scores are based on the facility's volume of nursing care. This includes a vast scope of personal care services, ranging from assistance with activities of daily living to routine medical services. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. We were a bit bothered by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated 86.8421 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be several points less than what we were hoping for. On a more positive note, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This facilities next best category was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this area. This is basically a middle of the road grade in this area. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled highly skilled professionals. This means a wide scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, in addition to other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, this facility was below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The final item we assessed in this area is the number of residents that ultimately returned home from the nursing home. We found that just 5 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. This figure was below average.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the last area, we gave this facility a D for the area of nursing. This is the nursing home's worst category score. Our nursing score focuses on the facility's nurse staffing levels. We weigh both the levels of training of those nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home averaged a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. This is an alarmingly low total. To pair with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per resident, this place also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing ratings. We looked at the percent of residents sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average nursing home. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many falls and bed sores are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these scores pulled down this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
