Short-term Care Quality
In addition to being a quality facility overall, this nursing home excelled in our short-term care category, where it earned an A-. Few nursing homes fared better in this area. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, not to mention other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we assessed the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's residents returned home.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that area, we gave this facility an A-. We analyzed the licensure of nurses at the facility, in addition to the quantity of hours those nurses worked with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home averages 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Adding to its impressive category grades, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B+ for our inspections rating. Inspection scores are based on items found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that receive favorable grades in this area tend to have few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Fortunately, although this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are found in categories G through L. This tells you the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in the industry.
Long-term Care Quality
The next category we assessed was long-term care, is this nursing home's weakest area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in this area. This really was one of the few weak points on a strong report card. For residents looking for a permanent place to live rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is a very important category. In addition to considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 98.36957 percent of its patients, which is better than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this nursing home also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Unfortunately, a few of its other scores in this category were not as favorable as these.
