Facility Inspections
While we graded this facility incredibly poorly overall, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A. Inspection scores account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. You should avoid nursing homes with a list of deficiencies flagged. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A couple minor deficiencies are not the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also wanted to draw your attention to this nursing home's bottom of the barrel long-term care grade where it was given an F. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in this category may not provide the kind of consistent around the clock care that some other facilities provide. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this nursing home gave the vaccine to only 60.77482 percent of its residents, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. Surprisingly, this facility was actually decent at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. This is its best feature in this category.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. There are quite a few criteria included in this category. Most of these subcategories are tied to levels of nurse staffing. This place averaged just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
The final area we graded is short-term care. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is a rock bottom score. Short-term care ratings are crucial for residents requiring rehabilitation. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing. This means a vast scope of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and speech therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. With a grade in this range for this category, we were not stunned to learn this place was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. In fact, it offered substantially fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most nursing homes. Lastly, we assessed the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. This wasn't a strength for this facility. We found that just 4.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. At most nursing homes, about half of their residents are able to return home so this is well below average.
