Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

In addition to earning a strong overall score, this nursing home performed well in short-term care. We awarded it an impressive grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. In our short-term care grade, we try to create a valuable barometer for rehabilitation services. In this process, we look at a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last item we considered in this category is the number of patients who ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that 6.3 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

In addition, this facility earned excellent government inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our better grades in that area, with a grade of B+. Inspection ratings take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can find more information about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

In addition, this facility also received favorable nursing grades this year. In fact, we awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B. The nursing grade is based on numerous subcategories. The most important one is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home Rhode Island in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving residents at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

Our final category is long-term care, in which we gave this facility a C in this area. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are very important. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 98.13664 percent of its patients. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
