Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to earning a strong overall grade, this nursing home performed even better in the area of inspections which is associated with the facility's recent inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that area, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection ratings weigh a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the number and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with higher scores in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another strong feature for this nursing home is that it received a very positive short-term care score. Indeed, this turned out to be its second best category grade. In this area, we gave this facility a grade of B+. Our short-term care grade is typically used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. To provide highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally must feature better levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all facilities employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The final statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that 5.8 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The third area we analyzed is long-term care, where this facility received a grade of B- in this category. In a long-term care setting, the nursing home's primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 98.773 percent of its patients, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. This nursing home was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Moving on to our next area, this facility was awarded a decent nursing score of B-. We weighed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, in addition to the number of hours the nurses spent with residents, in computing our score in this category. This particular nursing home provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This figure is significantly below average. Finally, our nursing scores also factor in some quality-focused statistics. We especially like to look at the percent of patients who sustained pressure ulcers and major falls. These metrics are decent indicators of the quality of nursing care, since better care tends to reduce these issues.
