Facility Inspections
In addition to faring well overall, this nursing home also earned nearly flawless government inspections. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that area with an A+. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Places with better grades in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
Contributing to its first-rate profile, this facility also performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we gave it a score of A for that category. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. On top of considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 97.05094 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia is too frequently a life threatening health condition for nursing home residents so we like it when a nursing home doesn't leave this to chance. Lastly, we looked at the nursing home's number of hospitalizations. With 1.72 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this facility was close to average in this area.
Short-term Care Quality
Turning our third category, we gave this nursing home a score of A- for its short-term care score. This is a first-rate rating. Our short-term care grades are based in part on a facility's quantity of highly-skilled nursing services. This means a broad spectrum of services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, in addition to other variations of therapy. This place provides more services with registered nurses and physical therapists than most nursing homes we looked at. This is certainly an encouraging sign. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in New York in this area with 60.8 percent of its patients returning home.
Nurse Quality
The final area we assessed was nursing. In this category, we gave this nursing home a solid grade of B-. This actually is this nursing home's least impressive area. Nursing ratings are based in large part on nurse staffing levels. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at a few nursing quality-based metrics and this nursing home excelled in some of these statistics. With fewer than five percent of its patients suffering from pressure ulcers, it fared very well in this statistic.
