Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. We weren't able to track down deficiency counts for this nursing home. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

This facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Our nursing grade is mostly based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provided 3.4 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Roughly a quarter of those hours were provided by registered nurses, which are one of the most skilled nurses. This is a high ratio of skilled nursing care. We weight these hours performed by skilled nurses more in determining our nursing ratings. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We view these areas as reliable indicators of the caliber of nursing care being provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Building on its high-end profile, this facility also was given a superb short-term care grade, with a grade of A-. Our short-term care grade is often used to gauge a facility's performance with rehabilitation In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to feature better levels of highly skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other highly skilled individuals. When we assessed this facility's nursing hours, we found it offered quite a bit more care from registered nurses than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of patients who returned home from the nursing home. This place performed respectably with 47.7 percent of its residents returning home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

In our final category, this facility also received a very strong long-term care rating, with a B+. This completed a very favorable report card. When facilities receive this kind of grade in long-term care it is typically a good sign for patient care and indicates that the facility is well-staffed with nurses and aids. After considering the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. This nursing home also keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had just 1.11 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a substantially lower hospitalization rate than the average nursing home.
