Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also fared well in our long-term care category, where it received an A+. Few facilities fared better in this category. When nursing homes receive a score in this range in this category it typically means it has plenty of staff and is an overall good place to live on a permanent basis. On top of looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents, which is far higher than most nursing homes. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

An additional reason we rated this facility so favorably is that it was given an A+ short-term care grade. This is simply as dominant as it gets in this category. Our short-term care grades are likely more important for individuals in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not just nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. However, according to the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that returned home from this facility. We found that 5.8 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Tallying yet another strong category grade, this facility also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an impressive grade of A. Few nursing homes performed better in this category. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these issues by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

Moving on to the final category, this nursing home also performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area. This completed a straight A report card. Nursing grades are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This particular nursing home provided 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
