Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
While we were not complementary of this nursing home's overall grade, it actually earned an impressive nursing grade this year. We gave it a grade of B+ in this area. Our nursing category assesses a handful of subcategories, most of which are tied to quantities of nurse staffing. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed very well in terms of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's next most favorable category is its short-term care score, where it received a B-. Our short-term care ratings are presumably most important for folks requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation usually utilizes additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. We found that this facility was below average in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It supplied fewer registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than most other facilities. It is important to determine whether this also correlates to a lower quality of care. The last statistic we looked at in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that just 4.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home. Unfortunately, this was below average.

Long-term Care Quality
We gave this nursing home just a D for our long-term care score. This is not an impressive grade. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it generally means the facility did not perform well in our measures relating to patient care. After considering the quantity of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination statistics. We were a bit worried that this facility vaccinated just 88.95833 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility had less hospitalizations than the average nursing home. This is its best score in this category.
Facility Inspections
The final category we looked at is inspections. Unfortunately, this nursing home didn't receive favorable government inspections in recent years. Consequently, we had to give it an F. When a place has this poor of an inspection rating, you should expect some severe deficiencies on its inspection report. Severe deficiencies indicate a risk to the well being of residents. Tragically, this facility had one category L deficiency. This type of deficiency indicates multiple widespread threats to patient safety or health. A deficiency in this category is very damaging to a nursing home's inspection score. Lastly, we would like to draw your attention to the fact that this place was assessed large government fines recently totaling more than $100,000. This usually indicates that a poor track record has been an issue for several years.
