Facility Inspections
The main reason this nursing home received a decent overall grade is its impeccable health inspections in recent years. We awarded them one of our higher scores in that category, with a grade of A. This is a notably better grade than the facility's overall score, which was decent but certainly not elite. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in computing our inspection scores. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this place had a few minor dings on its government inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means that the inspectors did not consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's more impressive category scores was in the category of long-term care. In that area, we gave this nursing home a grade of B. If you are seeking anything other than rehabilitation, you should take a close look at each facility's long-term care scores. On top of considering the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 68.75 percent of its patients, which is somewhat below what we were hoping for. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
This nursing home's nursing grade appears to be one of its better features. The facility received a grade of C in this category. We analyzed the qualifications of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours those nurses were with residents, in calculating our score in this category. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures. Although this place got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in some of these quality metrics. With less than five percent of its residents experiencing pressure ulcers, it did very well in this subcategory. This can be an indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as having a protocol of turning patients even once per day.
Short-term Care Quality
The last area we looked at was short-term care, which is this nursing home's least impressive area. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in this area. In forming our short-term care grades, we look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, speech therapists, physical therapists and other types of skilled professionals. The purpose is to devise a measure for sizing up the rehabilitation services of various facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. Finally, we considered the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. This facility didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 3.5 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home.
