Facility Inspections
The main reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it earned an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection grade was far superior to its overall score. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing our inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more important than the quantity of deficiencies, as some of these are quite minor. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its report, none of them were serious based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't stop you from considering a nursing home.
Nurse Quality
This nursing home performed well in the area of nursing. In fact, we gave it an B- for that category, which is one of our best grades. Nursing scores are primarily associated with a nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This place provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident daily. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this facility got dinged a bit for its nursing hours, it actually excelled in a few of our quality measures. With less than five percent of its patients experiencing pressure ulcers, it performed remarkably well in this metric.

Short-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this facility's third highest category is short-term care. Nevertheless, with a D in this category, it still performed relatively poorly. Our short-term care scores are presumably more critical for those needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally mandates higher levels of skilled nursing services. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. With its abysmal score in this category, we weren't stunned to find this facility offered substantially fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other nursing homes. The final item we considered in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 3.8 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care grade.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we analyzed was long-term care, turned out to be this facility's weakest category. We awarded this nursing home a D in this area. For prospective residents seeking a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care is a very important category. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we turned to the nursing home's vaccination record. We were optimistic to discover that this facility vaccinated 99.28058 percent of its patients against pneumonia. To our surprise, this place was able to keep its residents out of the hospital. It had just 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
