Facility Inspections
In addition to being a first rate facility overall, this nursing home also excelled in our inspections category, where it received an A+. Few nursing homes performed as well in this area. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in determining our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category most likely avoided the more severe deficiencies involving things like patient abuse. Although this nursing home had some deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this nursing home a score of A+ for its short-term care grade. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to qualify indicators of a facility's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, according to the data this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The final datapoint we assessed in this category is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.2 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the nursing home on a permanent basis.

In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 94.495415 percent of its residents. Vaccines are vital to keeping residents out of the hospital. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. It had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
Nurse Quality
In the last category we rated, this nursing home was awarded a very favorable grade of A in our nursing category. With this score, the facility finished off a straight A profile. In determining a nursing home's nursing score, we look at the number of hours nurses commit to residents as well as the levels of training of the nurses. This particular nursing home provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at certain nursing quality measures in computing our nursing grades. These include minimizing residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these data points as reliable indicators of the quality of nursing care provided, since better care tends to reduce these problems.
