Facility Inspections

Grade: B-plus

While we did not rate this facility favorably overall, we want to point out its relatively favorable government inspections in recent years. We gave it a B+ in this area, which is much better than its overall grade. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. It is typically in your best interest to avoid places that have too many deficiencies. Although this place had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were severe based on CMS' scale. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facilities second most favorable area was short-term care. We gave it a grade of C in this category. This is basically a middle of the pack score in this area. With our short-term care assessment, we attempt to create a valuable gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per resident than the typical facility. The last item we assessed in this area is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

We were stunned to find that this facility also excelled in nursing. We awarded it an impressive grade of D for that category, which is one of our best grades. The nursing rating is based on numerous factors. The most important variable is the amount of time nurses spent with residents. This facility provided just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This facility performed well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: F

The next category we graded is long-term care. Sadly, it received an abysmal F for this area, which is a very poor score. Nursing homes that do not fare well in this category often don't provide as much nursing care and also may be struggling in some of the areas of routine medical care we looked at. After looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 91.2 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which happens to be a few points below what we expected but still a respectable figure. To our surprise, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home has less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.
