Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its decent overall grade, we gave this facility an A for our inspections rating. This score is far better than its overall rating. These inspection ratings weigh several factors, including deficiencies and substantiated complaints. You can find more information about each of these items by reviewing copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. Although this nursing home had a few deficiencies on its government inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' deficiency scale. A couple of minor deficiencies shouldn't lead you to cross a nursing home off your list.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This facilities second most favorable category is short-term care. We awarded it a grade of B- in this category. This is essentially a middle of the road grade in this area. In determining our short-term care grades, we analyze a nursing home's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is considered to be a meaningful assessment of the facility's rehabilitation. Unfortunately, this place was below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours provided to its residents based on the measures we assessed. The critical question is whether this adversely impacted quality of care. The final datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients that ultimately returned home from the facility. We found that just 5.3 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: C

This facility was given its third most favorable category grade in the area of long-term care. We awarded this facility a C in this category, which is a reasonably acceptable score. For long-term care residents, the primary objective is to keep patients healthy and safe. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate residents. After considering the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination data. This nursing home vaccinated 98.7013 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: D

The final area we assessed is nursing, which turned out to be this facility's weakest area. We gave this nursing home a grade of D in this category. Our nursing grade includes many components, however, the main consideration is the number of nurse hours per patient per week. This facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a very low total compared to most nursing homes. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This nursing home fared well in terms of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers.
