Facility Inspections
On top of receiving a great overall grade, this facility also earned first-rate health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our better scores in this area, with an A+. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection scores is deficiencies. These deficiencies are found on a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities with higher scores in this area most likely dodged the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. While this facility had a few minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.
Short-term Care Quality
This facility also received a strong short-term care grade. Indeed, we gave it an above average score of B+ in this category. Short-term care ratings are based in part on the nursing home's quantity of skilled skilled healthcare professionals. This means a broad range of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. This nursing home elevated its grade in this category by offering more care from registered nurses to its residents than the average facility. Finally, we considered the number of residents who were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that it outperformed the majority of facilities in the country with 50.7 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the category of nursing care, this facility didn't perform quite as well in this area as some of the categories discussed above. Nevertheless, a grade of B- in this category is by no means a bad score. We weighed the levels of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the number of hours the nurses worked with residents, in determining our rating in this area. This nursing home provides 3.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, this place was relatively weak in some of the major areas we focus on, with below average scores for minimizing its patients' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Long-term Care Quality
Moving on to the final area, this nursing home was awarded a decent long-term care score of C. In determining our long-term care grades, we look at the facility's personal care services. On top of assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we analyzed the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.42 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes.
