Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

The primary reason this ended up being a decent nursing home is that it received an excellent inspection grade. Its inspection score was far better than its overall grade. In the inspections category, we gave this facility an A-. Inspection grades are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this category typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. While this nursing home had some deficiencies on its government inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple of minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing score. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B. Nursing grades are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in determining our nursing grades. This place performed very well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

This facility's second worse score was long-term care, where it earned just a D in that area. This is a well below average score. Long-term care grades in this range generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids. In addition to looking at the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility vaccinated 90.29346 percent of its residents. This is quite a bit less than the national average. Surprisingly, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With just 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This was its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next category we graded is short-term care, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive category. We awarded this facility a D in this area. In our short-term care grade, we try to craft a meaningful barometer for rehabilitation. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as occupational therapy. As you might expect, we discovered that this nursing home provides far less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than the typical facility. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of residents who were able to return to the community from this facility. We found that just 3.4 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.
