While this facility's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This place was assessed 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none were considered to be severe deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors didn't deem any of these deficiencies to pose an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A few minor deficiencies should not stop you from considering a nursing home.

In addition, we gave this facility a grade of B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher grades. With our short-term care grade, we endeavor to craft a sound barometer for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze the nursing home's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. When we looked at this facility's physical therapist hours, we found it offered more hours of physical therapy per day to its residents than most nursing homes. The last metric we assessed in this area is the number of residents that were able to return home from the facility. It fared better than most nursing homes in this area with 51.4 percent of its patients returning home.

Moving on to another strength for this facility, it also earned an elite nursing score. We gave this facility an D. We weighed the levels of nurses at the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses were with patients, in computing our rating in this category. This nursing home provided just 3.2 hours of nursing care per patient each day. In addition to receiving below average marks for nursing hours, this facility was less impressive in some of the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and found that this place was at roughly 1.5 times the national average in this statistic.

Historical

This nursing home's weakest area was long-term care, which is the last category we scored. In this category, we gave this nursing home a grade of D. For patients in need of a permanent residence as opposed to rehabilitation, long-term care grades are an important measure. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is better than most nursing homes. To our surprise, this facility also fared well at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.35 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. Sadly, some of its other scores in this category weren't as favorable as these.
