This nursing home received a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent inspection reports in recent years. We gave them an impressive grade of A- in this category. Arguably the most critical factor we look at in computing our inspection grades is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Places with higher scores in this area most likely avoided the most severe deficiencies involving health risks or even death. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate threat to patient health or safety. We should point out that deficiency-free inspection reports are rare in the industry.

This nursing home performed well in our nursing category. We gave it a grade of B- for that category, which is one of our best grades. Nursing scores are largely associated with a nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, while this nursing home got dinged a bit for its nursing hours per resident, it excelled in a few of our quality measures. With fewer than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed well in this area.

The third highest area we gave this facility in any category came in the area of long-term care, where we awarded it a B-. Our long-term care ratings are more meaningful for residents requiring more conventional assistance associated with personal care. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 99.75845 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is higher than the average nursing home. Finally, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

The next category we scored is short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a grade of C in that area. Our short-term care grades are believed to be most critical for people requiring a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not only nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home provided data regarding its registered nurse or physical therapy staffing. Finally, we assessed the number of residents who ultimately were able to return home from this facility. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was actually quite a bit below the national average.
