Facility Inspections
While we were not high on this facility's overall score, it received a very impressive inspection report this year. In fact, it received an excellent inspection report this year. As a result, it earned one of our best scores in that category with an A. Inspection grades weigh several factors, including deficiencies and federal fines. You can learn more about each of these factors by obtaining copies of nursing homes' inspection reports. While this nursing home had a few minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are those labeled as categories G through L. This tells you CMS did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. A few minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a solid score in the area of long-term care, where we gave it a grade of B-. In determining our long-term care scores, we look at the facility's ability to maintain its permanent residents' health and quality of life. One of the statistics we considered in addition to nursing hours was vaccinations. Thankfully, this facility provided the pneumonia vaccination to 100 percent of its patients. This facility keeps its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Nurse Quality
We gave this facility a grade of just D for our nursing rating. Our nursing grade is largely based on the facility's level of nurse staffing. This facility offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality measures in calculating our nursing scores. This facility fared well in the area of avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls.
Short-term Care Quality
Switching gears to the next area, this facility really didn't perform well here either. Due to a rock bottom grade of F in short-term care, this is just about as as uninspiring as it gets. Our short-term care scores are considered to be more important for residents requiring rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation generally utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing. Skilled nursing means not merely nursing services, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Based on its score in this category, we were not surprised to learn that this nursing home is well below average in terms of its quantity of physical therapy and registered nurse hours provided to its residents based on the metrics we looked at. Honestly, this was what we expected to find. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients that eventually returned home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.9 percent of its patients returning home.
