Short-term Care Quality
We also found that this facility excelled in our short-term care rating. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this category. In the category of short-term care, we seek to evaluate indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at a facility's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. This facility excelled in the two key staffing areas we looked at. It offered more care from physical therapists and registered nurses than the average nursing home. This is generally an excellent sign. Finally, we looked at the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. In addition to excelling in the area of physical therapy hours, we found that it performed as well as just about any nursing home in the nation with 57.2 percent of its patients returning home. Most nursing homes are below 50 percent in this metric.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. In that category, we awarded this facility an A+. We weighed the skill-level of nurses employed by the nursing home, as well as the quantity of hours the nurses spent with patients, in calculating our rating in this area. This nursing home provides an incredible 4.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the more highly trained levels of nurses. In addition to offering impressive levels of nursing care, this nursing home was also above average in each of the major quality-based metrics we looked at in this category. It performed well when it comes to minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls.
Facility Inspections
Racking up yet another strong category grade, this nursing home also excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an impressive grade of A. Few nursing homes fared better in this category. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically avoided the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
The final category we scored is long-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B+. This topped off a very strong report card. Few facilities received a B+ or higher in every single category. When facilities receive a grade in this range in long-term care it typically means it has plenty of staff and is a quality place to live on a permanent basis. After looking at the impressive nursing hours and other staffing provided by this nursing home, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. This nursing home vaccinated 99.59514 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is much higher than most nursing homes. The last datapoint we looked at is the nursing home's hospitalization rate. We found that this facility had 2.92 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days. While this admittedly wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this area, this statistic can be skewed for some facilities based on the medical complexity of patients.
