Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

In addition to receiving a great overall grade, this nursing home received an A+ for nursing. In calculating a nursing home's nursing grade, we look at the number of hours nurses commit to residents and the level of skill of the nurses. This nursing home averages 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can many times be avoided if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also wanted to alert you to the fact that this nursing home fared very well in our short-term care rating. We gave them an exemplary score of A+ in this area. With our short-term care category, we seek to craft a sound gauge for rehabilitation. In doing so, we look at the nursing home's levels of skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as respiratory therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last metric we considered in this area is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.8 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

We also gave this facility a grade of of A+ for its long-term care grade. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide residents with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility administered the vaccine to 100 percent of its residents, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

Finally, this facility also earned a virtually flawless government inspection. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with an A-. With this impressive grade, this place is one of the few facilities in Michigan to earn straight A's. These inspection grades take several factors into consideration, including deficiencies, substantiated complaints and federal fines. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
