Facility Inspections
On top of being a quality nursing home overall, this place really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received a grade of A. Few nursing homes fared better in that area. Perhaps the most important factor we consider in determining our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this category typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. While this place had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were severe based on CMS' deficiency scale. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are rare in this industry.
Nurse Quality
One of the other reasons we rated this facility so highly is that it earned a very impressive nursing rating. Nursing turned out to be its second best category grade. In that category, we awarded this facility an A-. When calculating a facility's nursing rating, we look at the amount of time nurses are seeing patients as well as the level of skill of those nurses. This facility offers extremely high levels of nursing care, averaging 5.4 hours per patient on a daily basis. This is more nursing care than nearly any other facility provides. Finally, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed as well as any facility the state when it comes to avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.
Long-term Care Quality
Turning to an additional strength for this facility, we awarded them one of our better grades in our long-term care category as well, with a B. In a long-term care setting, the primary goal is to maintain patients' quality of life and keep them safe. This nursing home's vaccination statistics were not as impressive as its number of nursing hours per resident. This nursing home provided the pneumonia vaccine to just 72.368416 percent of its residents. We'd like to see some improvement in this area in the future. Finally, we looked at the facility's number of hospitalizations. We found that this nursing home had 3.52 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. Although this wasn't as strong as most of its other scores in this category, this figure can be skewed for some nursing homes due to the medical complexity of residents.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we graded is short-term care. This facility was given a C for this area. In our short-term care assessment, we try to forge a sound gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we analyze a facility's levels of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. Lastly, we assessed the percentage of patients who returned home from this facility and found that this nursing home performed better here. In fact, this facility performed better than most facilities with 49.2 percent of its patients returning home.
