Facility Inspections
While we gave this facility a terrible overall score, we gave it a B+ for our inspections category. This is due to the facility receiving a quality inspection report this year. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors found on a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we consider is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid nursing homes with a bunch of deficiencies flagged. While this facility had a few deficiencies on its inspection report, none of them were major deficiencies based on CMS' scale. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Short-term Care Quality
We also would like to point out that this facility received an F for its short-term care score. Our short-term care ratings are arguably more meaningful for patients requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes not only nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. As you might expect, we learned that this place offers significantly less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than the average facility. The last metric we looked at in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.4 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor statistics doomed this nursing home's short-term care score.

Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home received an F for its nursing grade. Nursing ratings are heavily correlated with nurse staffing levels. This particular facility offered just 0.3 hours of nursing care per patient on a daily basis. This statistic is significantly below average. Lastly, we also assessed some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing ratings. This facility performed well in the area of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these datapoints to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care.
Long-term Care Quality
The next area we graded was long-term care. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is an abysmal score. When facilities receive this type of score in long-term care it is typically a bad sign for resident care and it may mean that the facility is not as well-staffed. After assessing the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination records. We were concerned by the fact that this facility vaccinated a relatively low 76.25899 percent of its patients for pneumonia. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than most nursing homes. This is its best score in this category.
