Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this facility an A+ for inspections. Our inspection grades are based on several pieces of information located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these facilities generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility was hit with 3 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This means that CMS did not consider any of the deficiencies to cause an immediate risk to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A-plus

This first-rate facility also excelled in the area of nursing, where it received a grade of A+. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. Nursing scores are mostly tied to the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.5 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this facility excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility New Jersey in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can typically be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as having a system of moving residents even once per day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

In the next area we looked at, this facility was given strong marks in the category of short-term care. As a result, it received one of our highest scores in that area with a of A+. Our short-term care grades are presumably more critical for residents requiring rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually requires more skilled nursing. This means not merely nursing, but also physical and occupational therapy, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility has registered nurses on staff. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents that were able to return home from this facility. We found that 6.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Switching gears to our next category, this facility also performed admirably in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A in that category. This wrapped up truly elite report card. Long-term care grades in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. In addition to looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we also looked at the percentage of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This nursing home gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients. Vaccines are critical to keeping patients out of the hospital. Clearly, this place is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. It had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
