Facility Inspections
This nursing home earned a solid overall grade as described above, but we really wanted to point out its excellent inspections in recent years. We awarded them an A- in this category. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One of the most important criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Facilities with better grades in this area usually have few severe deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Even some of the best nursing homes receive an occasional ding on their inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
Another one of this facility's higher category grades came in the area of long-term care. In that category, we gave this facility a B. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care typically are well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. One of the criteria we considered after nursing hours is vaccinations. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 99.11894 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a reliable method to avoid negative health outcomes for the senior population. This facility was also able to keep its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 1.31 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days.
Short-term Care Quality
This facilities next best category is short-term care. We awarded it a B- in this category. This is essentially a slightly below average grade in this category. Our short-term care grade is typically employed to measure a facility's rehabilitation services In order to provide highly scored rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to have higher levels of skilled nursing. These types of services include registered nurses, physical therapists, occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This nursing home employs both physical therapists and registered nurses. Not all facilities employ these skilled professionals. The final measure we considered in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. In fact, we found that it was above average in this metric with 55.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the last area, this nursing home received a decent nursing score of C. Our nursing rating includes several subcategories. The most important one is the number of hours nurses spent with residents. Based on the CMS data, this nursing home offers 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also considered some quality-based assessments. This place scored well in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed.
