Nurse Quality

Grade: A-minus

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A- for our nursing rating. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with residents. This particular nursing home provided 0.6 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in determining our nursing grades. This nursing home performed very well in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good indicators of the quality of nursing care.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Among its many elite grades, this nursing home was given a strong short-term care grade. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- in this category. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of highly skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists speech therapists and other types of therapists. This grade is considered to be a useful measure of the nursing home's rehabilitation services. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the number of patients who ultimately returned home from this facility. We found that 5.2 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-plus

The next area we assessed was long-term care. This facility was awarded an above average long-term care score, with a B+ in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care typically provide consistent around the clock care to make sure patients are well cared for. In addition to considering the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home provided the vaccine to 43.333336 percent of its patients. This is somewhat below what we were hoping for. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. Indeed, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B

In the last category we assessed, this nursing home earned a good grade in inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a score of B for that category. This nursing home didn't have any major weaknesses. We weigh several aspects of a nursing home's inspection report in calculating our inspection scores. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively insignificant. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
