Facility Inspections
Although we gave this facility a terrible overall grade, we awarded it a C for our inspections rating. In fact, the facility received very impressive inspection report this year. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of these deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Lastly, we want to point out that this place has received government fines in recent years. We were relieved to find that these were not on the high end as government fines go. That said, this still isn't what you want to see.
Long-term Care Quality
Unfortunately, this nursing home's next highest category was long-term care. As it turns out, with a D in this area, it still performed somewhat poorly. Nursing homes that receive this type of grade in long-term care may not provide the kind of consistent 24/7 care that some other facilities offer. After looking at the quantity of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination record. Candidly, we were a bit worried that this nursing home vaccinated 46.47059 percent of its residents against pneumonia, which is quite a bit below average. Surprisingly, this place actually fared well at keeping its residents out of the hospital. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days. This is its best score in this category.

Short-term Care Quality
Another concern was the F this nursing home received in the category of short-term care. Our short-term care scores are considered to be most critical for residents in need of rehabilitation from their nursing home. Rehabilitation typically mandates more skilled nursing. This means not just nursing services, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other forms of therapy. Considering its score in this category, we weren't stunned to find that this facility is well below average in terms of its quantity of registered nurse and physical therapy hours offered to its residents based on the figures we assessed. Frankly, this was what we expected to find. Finally, we assessed the percentage of residents that who were able to eventually return home from this nursing home. This nursing home didn't fare well here either. In fact, we found that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was well off the national average.
Nurse Quality
Switching gears to the final category, this facility did not fare well in this area either. With a rock bottom grade of F in nursing, this is just about as terrible as it gets. There are a host of criteria included in this grade. Many of the factors reflect the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. With only 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day, this facility's nurse staffing levels were quite a bit below average. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This facility had more falls and pressure ulcers than the average facility. This may be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. Unfortunately, these metrics hurt this nursing home's nursing grade quite a bit.
