While this nursing home's overall grade was not bad, it really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Perhaps the most significant factor we consider in calculating our inspection ratings is deficiencies. Deficiencies can be found on a facility's recent inspection reports. Facilities with better scores in this area typically avoided the most severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Turning to an additional strength for this facility, it also received a superb long-term care grade. In fact, we awarded this nursing home a score of A-. Long-term care grades of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine healthcare services. One of the criteria we considered on top of nursing hours was vaccines. This facility provided the pneumonia vaccine to 96.42857 percent of its patients. Vaccination is a great way to minimize unnecessary deaths for the nursing home population. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Another strength of this nursing home is its favorable grade in nursing. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with an D. Our nursing rating analyzes many components, however, the paramount one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Lastly, we also looked at some nursing quality-based metrics in calculating our nursing grades. This place fared well in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers.

The last area we graded is short-term care, which turned out to be this nursing home's worst area. Sadly, it received an F for this category, which is certainly very disappointing. In the category of short-term care, we strive to evaluate measures of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. Unfortunately, we found that this nursing home provided fewer physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than most other facilities.
