Facility Inspections
In addition to being a respectable facility overall, this facility also excelled in the category of inspections, where it earned a grade of A. Few facilities performed better in this area. Inspection grades are tied to several pieces of information found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Nursing homes that receive favorable grades in this category typically have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with risks to patient safety. This facility was hit with 4 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to create an imminent threat to resident safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In addition, we awarded this facility a B+ in our long-term care category. This is one of our more favorable scores. Nursing homes that do well in this category typically provide patients with closer supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination data. This facility vaccinated 99.50249 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the vast majority of nursing homes. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.56 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home's second least favorable score is short-term care, where it received a grade of just D in that area. This is a well below average score. Short-term care scores are based in part on a facility's quantity of skilled nursing services. This includes a broad spectrum of services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other types of therapy. In this nursing home's case, we found that it provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last statistic we assessed in this category is the number of patients who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 42.7 percent of its patients returning home. Unfortunately, this was quite a bit below the national average.
Nurse Quality
Turning to the fourth area, we awarded this facility a grade of D in nursing. This was the nursing home's worst category grade. Sadly, this score pulled down the facility's overall grade a bit. Nursing ratings are based in large part on quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provides 3.2 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. To pair with its low totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this facility also didn't fare as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing scores. We looked at the percentage of patients sustaining pressure ulcers and major falls. This place had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility.
