Medical Staff Hours Per Patient (2019)
Nurse Quality
To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for its nursing grade. Nursing scores are tied to quality and quantity of nursing care. This nursing home provides an incredible 5.9 hours of nursing care per patient daily. Out of that total, many of the hours were provided by registered nurses, which is one of the most highly trained levels of nurses. On top of offering impressive levels of nursing care, this facility also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. By way of illustration, it performed as well as any nursing home in Florida in the area of avoiding major falls and pressure ulcers. We view these statistics as reliable measures of the quality of nursing care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
We also awarded this facility a score of A+ for its short-term care grade. In determining these short-term care grades, we analyze the facility's skilled nursing services, including those performed by registered nurses, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. The purpose is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of nursing homes. This nursing home is substantially above average in terms of its quantity of both physical therapy and registered nurse hours offered to its patients. In fact, it supplied about 1.5 times as much care per resident from both of these care providers than the typical facility provided. The last datapoint we assessed in this category is the number of patients that ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that it fared as well as just about any nursing home in Florida in this area with 61.6 percent of its patients returning home.
Facility Inspections
This facility also received a nearly flawless inspection report. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Our inspection ratings are tied to datapoints found on the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Facilities that score well in this area typically have very few deficiencies on those reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
In the final area we analyzed, this facility received impressive marks in the area of long-term care also. Consequently, it was awarded an A+. This rendered it one of the few of nursing homes we awarded A+'s in all four categories. For prospective residents looking for a permanent residence rather than skilled nursing, long-term care is an important category. In addition to assessing the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. We were not able to track down this facility's vaccination rates. Clearly, this nursing home is doing something right in this area as it also excelled at keeping its residents out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
