Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the reasons this place ended up being a great nursing home is it earned an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this very important area. Our inspection grades weigh several factors included in a nursing home's inspection report. One key criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have few severe deficiencies. While this place had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: A

To complement its strong performance in other areas, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A+ for our inspections rating. Our nursing grade is mostly associated with the nursing home's nurse staffing. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be avoided by offering better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving residents at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

The third area we looked at is short-term care. Adding to its superb resume, this nursing home also excelled in that area. In fact, we gave it a grade of of A- in the category. Our short-term care grades are likely more critical for individuals needing a nursing home for rehabilitation. Rehabilitation generally requires additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means not only nursing, but also physical and speech therapy, as well as other types of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. However, according to the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of patients who were able to leave the facility and return home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's patients returned home.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

Moving on to our final category, this nursing home was awarded a very strong long-term care rating. In fact, we gave it an A- in this category, rounding out a straight A profile. Nursing homes that excel in long-term care tend to provide patients with more supervision and stay on top of routine medical care. On top of looking at the volume of care provided by nurses and other staff, we looked at the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. This facility gave the vaccine to 100 percent of its patients, which is an impressive figure. Pneumonia is often a life threatening illness for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Lastly, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
