Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a great nursing home is that it received an A+ long-term care grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this category. Facilities that receive this kind of grade in long-term care tend to provide consistent 24/7 care to ensure residents are kept in good health. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia can be a dangerous condition for nursing home patients so we prefer when a facility does not take any chances. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.

Facility Inspections

Grade: A

Adding to its impressive profile, this nursing home also performed well in the area of inspections. In fact, it earned a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our best grades in that area with a score of A. Our inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a facility's inspection reports. One key criteria we consider is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with higher scores in this category typically have few severe deficiencies. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones found in categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This means the government inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

Adding to its profile, this facility also earned a grade of B for its nursing rating. This is a well above average score in this category. Our nursing rating analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this nursing home excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the country in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can generally be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by having a protocol of moving residents more often.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last area we graded was short-term care, where this nursing home was awarded a B-. While this wound up being its worst category grade, this is nevertheless not a terrible score. Our short-term care grades are meaningful for residents seeking rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically utilizes additional highly-skilled nursing services. This means a wide scope of nursing services, ranging from registered nurses to physical and occupational therapists, as well as other forms of therapy. Unfortunately, it does not look like this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Finally, we assessed the percentage of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.3 percent of this facility's patients returned home. At most facilities, closer to half of their patients are able to return home so this figure is below average.
