Facility Inspections

Grade: A-plus

One of the many reasons this turned out to be a quality nursing home is that it received an A+ inspection grade. This is simply as good as it gets in this critical category. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in determining our inspection grades. One key factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some of these are relatively insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had a few minor dings on its report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A-minus

We also awarded this nursing home a score of A- for our long-term care score. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its patients for pneumonia, which is far higher than the majority of nursing homes. Finally, this nursing home was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B

This nursing home also received a strong nursing score. In fact, we awarded it an above average grade of B in this area. Our nursing score analyzes the nursing home's level of nurse staffing. We factor in both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with residents. This nursing home provides 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, our nursing grades also factor in quality-based assessments, such as avoiding major falls. This nursing home performed well in this area. Avoiding major falls is typically a good indicator that a nursing home has reliable quality controls in place. Major falls can often be prevented if more nurses aids and better safety protocols are in place.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: C

The final category we scored is short-term care. We awarded this nursing home a solid grade in this category, with a grade of C. Even though this is not as favorable as many of this facility's other scores, it is still not a bad grade. In the area of short-term care, we seek to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We analyze a nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses and physical, occupational and other therapists. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like this nursing home provided information about its staffing of registered nurses or physical therapists. Lastly, we considered the percentage of patients that ultimately were able to return home from this nursing home. We found that 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home. This figure was quite a bit below the national average.
