Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall grade was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A- for that category, which is one of our best scores. Inspection grades account for a host of factors included in a nursing home's inspection reports. One key criteria we look at is the number and severity of deficiencies. You generally want to avoid facilities with too many deficiencies flagged. This place received 2 deficiencies on its inspection report, but fortunately none of the deficiencies were considered to be major deficiencies. This indicates that the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient health or safety. A couple minor deficiencies aren't the end of the world.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home was given its second highest category score in the category of long-term care. We gave this nursing home a grade of C in this area, which is a decent grade. In our long-term care rating, we focus on the sheer quantity of care provided by a facility, as well as some quality datapoints. Once we finished looking at the quantity of nursing care, we then analyzed the facility's vaccination statistics. Frankly, we were a bit concerned this facility vaccinated just 78.19549 percent of its residents against pneumonia. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. In fact, it had only 0.03 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
Another issue is the F this facility received in the category of short-term care. In calculating our short-term care grades, we look at the facility's levels of skilled nursing, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other licensed professionals. This area is more often than not a fair measure of a nursing home's ability to rehabilitate patients. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides far less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per resident than the average facility. The last statistic we considered in this area is the number of residents who were able to leave the facility and return to the community. We discovered that just 4.3 percent of this facility's patients were able to return home, which is well below average. The combination of these poor metrics sunk this facility's short-term care grade.
Nurse Quality
The final category we graded was nursing, in which this facility was given an abysmal grade in this category as well. Sadly, it received a lowly F for this area, which is obviously a major concern. Our nursing rating assesses the facility's level of nurse staffing. We consider both the levels of training of the nurses and the quantity of hours spent with patients. This nursing home offered only 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident each day. To go along with its subpar totals in the area of nursing hours per patient, this nursing home also didn't perform as well in the quality-based measures we looked at in determining our nursing grades. We looked at the percent of residents experiencing pressure ulcers and major falls. This nursing home had more pressure ulcers and falls than the average facility. This could be a bad sign when you consider that many bed sores and falls are believed to be preventable with better nursing care. These scores hurt this facility's nursing grade significantly.
