Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

This facility received a nursing score which is stronger than its overall score. We gave this facility an above average grade of B+ in this area. In determining our nursing grades, we assess both staffing levels and the levels of licensure of those nurses. This nursing home averages 0 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also looked at several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can many times be prevented by offering better nursing care, such as employing a system of moving patients at least once a day.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Another one of this facility's better category scores came in the category of short-term care. In that area, we awarded this nursing home a B. It actually outpaced most facilities in this area. Our short-term care scores are considered to be most meaningful for people in need of rehabilitation services. Rehabilitation usually mandates additional highly-skilled nursing. This includes not merely nursing, but also physical and respiratory therapy, as well as other types of therapy. It does not look like this nursing home submitted information on registered nurse or physical therapist staffing. Lastly, we looked at the percentage of patients who were able to return home from this facility. We found that it outperformed the majority of nursing homes in the nation in this area with 49.7 percent of its residents returning home. This is a better rate than most nursing homes.

Facility Inspections

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home earned a good score in the area of inspections as well. In fact, we awarded it a B- for that category, which is one of our better scores. Inspection scores weigh several factors found on a nursing home's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we rely on is the number and severity of deficiencies. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Based on this, we still had positive view of this nursing home's inspections.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next category we looked at is long-term care, which turned out to be this facility's least impressive area. We gave this facility a D in this area. In a long-term care environment, the primary objective is to keep patients as healthy and safe as possible. This is different than skilled nursing or short-term care where the goal is to rehabilitate patients. One of the criteria we considered in addition to nurse's aid hours is vaccines. Thankfully, this facility administered the pneumonia vaccination to 96 percent of its patients. Surprisingly, this place also was not as bad as we expected at keeping its residents out of the hospital. While it had 1.84 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, its risk adjusted statistic wasn't bad since it had more complex patients.
