Registered Staff Hours
In addition to being a quality nursing home overall, this nursing home really excelled in the area of nursing, where it received an A. Nursing scores are based largely on levels of nurse staffing. This facility provided 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any facility the nation in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can often be prevented by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a patient more frequently.
Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home fared well in our short-term care category. As a result, we awarded it a score of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. Short-term care grades are commonly used to score a nursing home's rehabilitation services. In order to have highly scored rehabilitation services, facilities generally need to offer better levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other types of therapists. Fortunately, it looks like this nursing home employs registered nurses. Not all nursing homes employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 5.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home.

In addition, this nursing home received a very good inspection report this year as well. For this reason, it received one of our better grades in that area with a B. Perhaps the most critical factor we look at in calculating our inspection grades is deficiencies. These deficiencies can be found on a nursing home's inspection reports. Nursing homes with higher grades in this area typically dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This place was hit with 7 deficiencies on its inspection report, but we were relieved to see that none of the deficiencies were considered severe. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies to pose an imminent threat to resident health or safety. The fact that the deficiencies were relatively minor made us feel better about this inspection report.
Long-term Care Quality
The final area we analyzed was long-term care, in which this nursing home was awarded a C. Although this is its lowest category rating, this is nevertheless not a major area of concern. For patients looking for a permanent residence as opposed to skilled nursing, long-term care grades are an important measure. Once we assessed the volume of nursing care, we next considered the facility's vaccination records. We were pleased to discover that this nursing home vaccinated 95.798325 percent of its residents for pneumonia. Lastly, this nursing home was also able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.02 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low figure.
