In addition to receiving a strong overall grade, this nursing home performed well in our nursing category. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A- for that category, which is one of our highest scores. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any nursing home the state in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as by employing a policy of turning a patient more frequently.

Facilities that excel in this category tend to have very few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these nursing homes should not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Unfortunately, this nursing home was assessed a category L deficiency, which was not what we expected given its inspection grade. This category of deficiency means inspectors discovered a widespread deficiency putting patient safety or health in immediate danger. In spite of this major red flag, other aspects of this facility's inspection report gave us some hope.
Long-term Care Quality
The last area we scored is long-term care. We awarded this facility an acceptable score in that category, with a B-. Even though this wasn't as dominant as many of this facility's other grades, it is nevertheless a middle of the pack score. In computing our long-term care ratings, we analyze the assistance with daily living offered to a facility's patients. After looking at the volume of care provided by aids and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is better than the average nursing home. This facility keeps its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had less than one hospitalization per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low figure.
