Facility Inspections

Grade: A

In addition to receiving a strong overall score, this nursing home also earned excellent health inspections in recent years. We awarded it one of our highest scores in that category, with an A. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is health deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies end up being relatively minor. This place was assessed 8 deficiencies on its inspection report, but none of the deficiencies were considered to be severe. This tells you that CMS did not deem any of these deficiencies to create an imminent risk to patient safety or health. Remember that deficiency-free inspection reports are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: A

Contributing to its strong profile, this nursing home also was given a superb short-term care score, with a score of A. Our short-term care scores are critical for prospective residents in need of rehabilitation. Rehabilitation typically mandates higher levels of skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes a broad scope of nursing services, spanning from registered nurses to physical and respiratory therapists, as well as other variations of therapy. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every facility employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information this nursing home provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. The last measure we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who ultimately were able to return home from the nursing home. We found that 6.1 percent of this nursing home's patients returned home as opposed to remaining at the facility on a permanent basis.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-plus

Another one of this facility's impressive category grades came in the area of nursing care. We awarded them one of our better scores in that area, with a grade of B+. Our nursing grade weighs quite a few factors, however, the most important consideration is the quantity of nurse hours per patient per week. This nursing home averages 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Finally, we also assessed several nursing quality measures and this place excelled in some of these areas. With less than five percent of its residents sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed as well as any place Florida in this category. This is generally a good indicator of quality nursing care. Pressure ulcers can frequently be avoided by providing better nursing care, such as employing a policy of turning residents at least once a day.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Switching gears to the final area, this nursing home received an excellent long-term care score. While this was not nearly as strong as several of its other grades, this remains one of our more impressive scores we offer. Facilities that excel in long-term care typically provide residents with more supervision and stay on top of routine healthcare services. After assessing the quantity of care provided by nurses and other staff, we then looked at the nursing home's vaccination statistics. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is significantly higher than the majority of nursing homes. Clearly, this facility is doing something right in this area as it was able to keep its patients out of the hospital. In fact, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.
