Facility Inspections

Grade: A-minus

In addition to being a respectable nursing home overall, this facility really excelled in the area of inspections, where it received an A-. Few nursing homes performed better in this area. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in computing these inspection ratings. One critical factor is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of the deficiencies is arguably more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some are quite insignificant. Fortunately, although this nursing home had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had zero severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are ones labeled as categories G through L. This tells you that the inspectors didn't consider any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient health or safety. The fact that none of the deficiencies were severe leaves us less concerned with this inspection report.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

Additionally, we gave this facility a B in our short-term care category. This happens to be one of our higher grades. With our short-term care rating, we try to forge a fair gauge for rehabilitation services. In doing so, we look at a facility's level of highly-skilled nursing services, including both registered nurses and physical therapy, as well as speech therapy. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not every facility employs these types of nurses. However, based on the data they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Finally, we looked at the number of residents who were able to return to the community from this nursing home. We found that 4.9 percent of this facility's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

Next, we looked at the nursing category where we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-, which is a decent grade. The nursing rating includes quite a few subcategories, but the primary one is the level of nurse hours spent with patients. This particular facility provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient each day. This figure is far below the national average. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It scored well in the area of minimizing its residents' major falls and pressure ulcers. Many consider these areas to be reliable measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is just as important as the number of hours of care provided.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

The next area we analyzed is long-term care. For that category, we awarded this facility a B-. Our long-term care grades are more important for people needing more traditional services related to activities of daily living. Once we assessed the quantity of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination data. We were disappointed to learn that this facility vaccinated only 83.0827 percent of its residents against pneumonia. On a more positive note, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. Indeed, it had only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.
