Facility Inspections

Grade: A

While this nursing home's overall grade was decent, it really fared well in the area of inspections. In fact, we awarded it a grade of A for that category, which is one of our best scores. Our inspection scores account for several factors included in a facility's inspection report. One key criteria we weigh heavily is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. Places with better grades in this category usually have very few of these severe deficiencies. While this facility had some minor dings on its inspection report, it had no severe deficiencies. Severe deficiencies are labeled as categories G, H, I, J, K and L. This tells you the government inspectors did not deem any of the deficiencies on this facility's report to pose an imminent threat to patient safety or health. Keep in mind that deficiency-free inspections are uncommon in this industry.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B

We also awarded this nursing home a favorable score in short-term care. This facility received a B in this area, which happens to be one of our better scores. In the area of short-term care, we attempt to assess indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation. We look at the facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and various therapists. Fortunately, it appear that this nursing home has registered nurses on staff. Not all facilities employs these skilled professionals. On the other hand, based on the information they provided, they do not appear to employ physical therapists. Lastly, we assessed the number of patients who eventually returned home from this facility. We found that 5.6 percent of this nursing home's residents were able to return home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: C

One of this facility's better category grades was in the area of nursing care. In that area, we gave this facility a grade of C. In computing our nursing grades, we factor in both nursing hours and the levels of licensure of the nurses. This nursing home provided just 0.4 hours of nursing care per patient per day. This is a relatively low total compared to most facilities. Lastly, our nursing scores also factor in quality-based metrics, such as avoiding major falls. Despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours, this nursing home actually performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is usually an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place. Many falls can be avoided if a facility supplies enough nurses to assist its patients.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: D

The next category we rated is long-term care, was this facility's worst category. We awarded this nursing home a grade of D in that category. This is one of just a few weak links in a quality profile. Long-term care scores of this caliber generally are a bad sign for the quantity and quality of care provided by nurses and aids, as well as the levels of routine medical care available. On top of considering the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we analyzed the number of residents vaccinated for pneumonia. As it turns out, this facility vaccinated just 81.79959 percent of its patients, which is quite a bit lower than we expected. To our surprise, this facility was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0.01 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, this nursing home had less hospitalizations than many nursing homes. This is its best feature in this category.
