Facility Inspections
While this nursing home's overall score was not a highlight, it actually really excelled in the category of inspections. In fact, we awarded it an A for that area, which is one of our best scores. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating these inspection grades. One of those factors is deficiencies. It should be noted that the severity of the deficiencies is usually more important than the number of deficiencies, as some can be quite minor. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. In spite of this deficiency, this place still received a relatively favorable report.
Long-term Care Quality
We also gave this facility a respectable grade in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a C. In determining our long-term care ratings, we assess the personal care offered to a nursing home's residents. Once we looked at the volume of care provided by nurses aids and other staff, we next considered the nursing home's vaccination statistics. We were pleased to learn that this nursing home vaccinated 98.59485 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Finally, this place was also able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.03 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, which is a remarkably low number.

Short-term Care Quality
This nursing home ended up receiving a an abysmal grade in our short-term care category. It received an F in this category. In computing these short-term care ratings, we quantify the nursing home's skilled nursing services, such as those performed by registered nurses, respiratory therapists, physical therapists and other types of therapists. Our objective is to create a barometer for sizing up the rehabilitation services of different facilities. Not surprisingly, we found that this nursing home provides significantly less registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than a typical nursing home. The last statistic we considered in this area is the percentage of patients that who were able to eventually return home from the nursing home. This nursing home struggled quite a bit in this area as well, with just 3.9 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
The next area we assessed is nursing, in which this nursing home was given a poor score in this category as well. Sadly, it received an F in this category, which is definitely a major concern. There are several subcategories within this category. Most of these criteria are tied to the quantity and quality of nurse staffing. This particular place offered a meager 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day. This number is far below average. This place also had terrible marks in some of the quality-based metrics to go along with its low nursing hour totals. We looked at the percentage of patients suffering pressure ulcers and we were very disappointed. This facility was at roughly 150 percent of the national average in this statistic. This is a bad sign when you consider that so many pressure ulcers could be avoided with better nursing care. This metric helped pull down this facility's nursing rating significantly.
