Registered Staff Hours
Nurse Quality
Although we graded this facility very poorly overall, it received a fairly respectable nursing rating this year. We gave it a grade of C in this category. Nursing scores are primarily based on the nursing home's nurse staffing. This place provides 0.4 hours of nursing care per resident on a daily basis. This is a much lower figure than we are used to seeing. Despite having low quantities of nursing care, this nursing home surprisingly excelled in some of the quality-based metrics we assessed. It performed well when it comes to avoiding pressure ulcers and major falls. We consider these areas to be good measures of the quality of nursing care. In some cases, the quality of nursing care is as important as the number of hours of care offered.
Short-term Care Quality
Incredibly, we awarded this facility a grade of C for its short-term care score, which really isn't a bad grade. Short-term care grades are typically used to judge a facility's performance with rehabilitation. In order to provide high-end rehabilitation services, facilities generally must have higher levels of highly skilled nursing. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, respiratory therapists and other licensed professionals. In this nursing home's case, we were surprised to learn that it actually provides less physical therapist and registered nurse hours per patient than a typical facility. The last datapoint we looked at in this category is the percentage of residents who were able to leave the nursing home and return home. We discovered that just 0 percent of this facility's residents were able to return home, which is actually below average.

Facility Inspections
Unfortunately, with a grade of D in the inspection category, this facility performed relatively poorly in that area. Inspection ratings account for a host of factors found on a facility's inspection report. One of the most important criteria we look at is the quantity and severity of deficiencies. This nursing home was hit with 2 deficiencies by CMS. The only positive thing we found is that none of the deficiencies were in the categories that indicate they caused a threat to patient safety or health. Lastly, we also need to point out that this nursing home received significant government fines recently of over $100,000. This usually means that a nursing home's poor performance has been an issue for several years.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we analyzed is long-term care. This facility was given a bottom of the barrel grade of F in that area. When nursing homes receive this kind of score in long-term care it is often a bad sign for resident care and it may indicate that the facility is not as well-staffed. Once we assessed the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we then analyzed the nursing home's vaccination record. We were concerned by the fact that this nursing home vaccinated only 90.56604 percent of its patients for pneumonia. Surprisingly, this nursing home was actually able to limit hospitalizations. With only 0 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this nursing home had fewer hospitalizations than the majority of nursing homes. This was its best feature in this category.
