Facility Inspections

Grade: A

To go along with its strong overall grade, we awarded this nursing home a grade of A for our inspections rating. Arguably the most significant factor we look at in computing our inspection scores is deficiencies. Deficiencies are found on a facility's inspection reports. Nursing homes with better scores in this category most likely dodged the more severe deficiencies involving patient abuse or death. This particular nursing home had just a single deficiency on its inspection report and it was not one deemed to pose a threat to patient health or safety. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.

Long-term Care Quality

Grade: A

This nursing home performed well in our long-term care category. In fact, we awarded it a score of A for that area, which turns out to be one of our most favorable grades. Facilities that do well in this category tend to be well-staffed and provide extensive hands on care to patients. After considering the quantity of care provided by nurses, we then looked at the facility's vaccination records. This facility vaccinated 100 percent of its residents for pneumonia, which is what we like to see. Pneumonia is too frequently a dangerous ailment for nursing home patients so we strongly prefer when a nursing home does not leave its residents vulnerable. Finally, this place was able to limit hospitalizations. It had only 0.02 hospitalizations per one thousand long-term resident days, which is an impressively low number.

Short-term Care Quality

Grade: B-minus

This nursing home's next most favorable area is short-term care. In that category, we awarded this nursing home a grade of B-. In calculating our short-term care grades, we assess a facility's levels of skilled nursing services, which includes registered nurses, physical therapists occupational therapists and other highly trained professionals. This score is typically a meaningful measure of a facility's ability to rehabilitate patients. Fortunately, it looks like this facility employs registered nurses. Not every nursing home employs these types of nurses. On the other hand, based on the data they provided, it does not look like the facility employs physical therapists. The last statistic we considered in this category is the number of residents who returned home from the facility. We found that just 0 percent of this nursing home's residents returned home.

Nurse Quality

Grade: B-minus

The last category we graded was nursing. In that area, we gave this facility a decent grade of B-. This is this nursing home's least impressive category. Our nursing grade includes many components, however, the paramount one is the number of nurse hours spent with patients. This facility averages just 0.3 hours of nursing care per resident per day, which is well below average. Finally, despite not having the most impressive total nursing hours per resident, this nursing home performed admirably in the area of preventing major falls. This is typically an indicator that a facility has sufficient quality controls in place.
