Facility Inspections
On top of performing well in its overall grade, this facility performed at an even higher level in the area of inspections. In fact, it received a nearly flawless inspection report this year. As a result, it received one of our highest grades in that category with a score of A+. Inspection scores are tied to many datapoints located in the a nursing home's recent inspection reports. Places that excel in this category have few deficiencies on their reports. Most importantly, these places generally do not have any severe deficiencies which are associated with endangerment of patients. Finally, this facility had no substantiated complaints this year from residents, which is an excellent sign.
Long-term Care Quality
This nursing home truly excelled in the category of long-term care, where we awarded it a grade of A-. Only a select group of facilities performed better in this category. Long-term care ratings in this range generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. On top of assessing the amount of care provided by aids and other staff, we also looked at the number of residents vaccinated against pneumonia. This nursing home vaccinated 97.77778 percent of its residents, which is very impressive. Pneumonia tragically can be a deadly illness for nursing home patients so we like it when a nursing home doesn't roll the dice on this issue. Finally, this facility was able to limit hospitalizations. With only 1.54 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this facility has less hospitalizations than the average nursing home.
Short-term Care Quality
The next highest category we gave this nursing home in any area came in the area of short-term care, where we gave it a C. Short-term care grades are typically used to measure a facility's rehabilitation services To offer highly graded rehabilitation services, nursing homes generally need to provide higher levels of highly skilled nursing services. Skilled nursing includes registered nurses, physical therapists, speech therapists and other licensed professionals. We were pleased to find that this nursing home employs both registered nurses and physical therapists. The same can't be said for all nursing homes. The last metric we assessed in this category is the number of patients who were able to leave the nursing home and return to the community. This place was respectable in this area with 47.4 percent of its residents returning home.
Nurse Quality
Moving on to the final area, this facility was given an acceptable nursing grade of C. Our nursing grade analyzes the nursing home's nurse staffing levels. We consider both the levels of training of those nurses and the amount of time spent with patients. This particular nursing home provided 3.7 hours of nursing care per resident per day. Lastly, we also assessed a few nursing quality-based metrics and this place excelled in some of these subcategories. With fewer than five percent of its patients sustaining pressure ulcers, it performed very well in this metric.
