Nurse Quality
We also wanted to point out that this nursing home excelled in our nursing grade. We awarded them an impressive grade of A+ in this area. Nursing ratings are tied to quantity of nursing care available. This nursing home provided 4.6 hours of nursing care per patient daily. This was one of the higher figures we found. Furthermore, we found that a significant percentage of this care was provided by registered nurses, which are highly skilled nurses. These are both really impressive figures. In addition to offering high levels of nursing care, this place also excelled in the quality-based metrics we assessed. For example, it performed as well as any nursing home in the state in terms of minimizing its residents' pressure ulcers and major falls. We look at these statistics as good indicators of the caliber of nursing care provided.
Facility Inspections
This facility also earned an A+ inspection grade, making it one of the few facilities to receive multiple A+'s in our category grades. We take several aspects of a facility's inspection report into consideration in calculating our inspection ratings. One of those factors is deficiencies. You should keep in mind that the severity of these deficiencies is usually more meaningful than the number of deficiencies, as some deficiencies are relatively minor. This particular nursing home received 3 deficiencies on its inspection report. Overall, this is still a good inspection report, but we'd always recommend looking into any deficiencies you find troubling.
Short-term Care Quality
The next category we looked at is short-term care. This facility also received an A+ short-term care grade, making it one of the few nursing homes to be given multiple A+ category scores. In the area of short-term care, we try to qualify indicators of a nursing home's rehabilitation services. We analyze a facility's skilled nursing services, including the ones performed by registered nurses and physical and occupational therapists. This facility provided more registered nurse and physical therapist hours per patient than most nursing homes. The last item we assessed in this category is the number of residents that eventually returned home from the facility. We found that it performed as well as just about any facility in New Jersey in this area with 56.8 percent of its residents returning home.
Long-term Care Quality
The last category we graded was long-term care. This facility was given a better than average nursing score in our assessment, with a B. Even though this isn't nearly as strong as a few of its other grades, this is nevertheless one of the more impressive scores for this category. Long-term care ratings of this caliber generally require both around the clock care from nurses and aids, as well as quality routine medical care. After looking at the very impressive nursing care provided by this facility, we turned to the facility's vaccination records. This nursing home vaccinated 99.40476 percent of its patients against pneumonia, which is far higher than the average nursing home. Lastly, we looked at its number of hospitalizations. With 1.81 hospitalizations per 1,000 long-term resident days, this place is close to average in this area.
